SD 5.1 - Sd Cards are now fast enough to run your Apps

Last year, Google released Android Marshmallow with a feature called 'Adoptable Storage' meaning you could use your sd card as a virtual internal memory and install apps on it. Theoretically, you could do so, but the performance was not up to the mark, due to slow read and write speeds provided by sd card. Hence, a number of major companies including Samsung decided not to use that feature. Sd card association seems to address the issue with a new standard called Application Performance Class SD 5.1 . This new standard will be available for both- the sd cards and the phones. The new specification, called "A1" (or App Performance Level 1), comes with minimum random read performance inputs/outputs per second of 1500 IOPS, minimum random write performance of 500 IOPS and minimum sustained sequential performance of 10 MB/sec. In other words, they are good enough to be used as storage devices for Apps. A1 logo will soon be found on devices and Sd card packagin...

Mi Mix- Xiaomi's bezel-less smartphone!

There are always a few surprises present at Xiaomi's event, but this time around it was rather sweet one. After announcing its flagship Mi Note 2, Xiaomi unveiled its concept phone- Mi Mix, which features an 6.4 inch "edgeless" display, with an unheard screen to body ratio of 91.3 percent. This might also be the first concept phone to be available in the market ,albeit in limited numbers and only in China. This kind of design means Xiaomi had to replace the usual ear-piece with a cantilevered piezoelectric actuator to produce audible sound for voice calls. There is also an ultrasonic proximity sensor instead of an regular one. The "rest of the phone" also goes toe to toe with the likes of Apple and Samsung. It features a gorgeous ceramic build designed by famed French designer Philippe Starck. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at 2.35GHz,  with upto 6GB of  RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, a 4,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3....

Google Pixel replaces Nexus, officially

There was a time when Google made phones that were essentially pseudo flagships like the current OnePlus or Xiaomi, which offered almost everything, that a flagship would but with some compromises here and there. But that doesn't seem to be the case now, as the current Google Phones ala Pixel are flagships in every way, be it specs, camera or software. While Nexus phones were a collaboration with manufacturers like Samsung, Lg etc, with the launch of Pixel phones, Google seems to have finally taken control over the phone's design and engineering. These phones no longer feature HTC's branding, even though they made it, a change compared to earlier Nexus phones, which carried the branding of the company that made them. Software seems to be the main selling point here. The are the first google phones that come with their custom launcher called Pixel launcher which  has some unique features like swipe on the fingerprint scanner to see notifications. The phone wil...

At Reliance's AGM on 1st September '16, Mukesh Ambani announced the commercial launch of Reliance Jio. The tariffs are likely to shake up the entire telecom sector in India. All jio services including voice, apps, and 4G LTE data would be available free of cost to everyone from September 5 to December 31, 2016. Mukesh Ambani said that the customers should pay only for one service- that is either voice or data because world over, operators charge only for data, while voice and messaging are essentially free.Plans start from  ₹ 19 and go up to  ₹ 5,000 depending on the amount of data and validity. The entire Jio plans list, including the ones that were not announced at the eve...

OnePlus 3- Finally a true 'Flagship Killer'.

After weeks of rumours and leaks, OnePlus 3 is now officially announced and available.True to its core of offering flagship specs at affordable prices, OnePlus has launched OnePlus 3 featuring flagship like specs at just $399 unlocked(or ₹27999). This time around the deal is even sweeter, the phone is available for direct purchase without the annoying invite system. Design: The design is a complete overhaul as the company has finally ditched its sandstone texture backing, replacing it with an all metallic unibody, which looks beautiful and well built but lacks originality as the design borrows from some HTC and Samsung phones that were released before it. Its not a bad thing because imitation is the best form of flattery and even a company like Apple imitates. Specs: Specs wise, it's up there with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7 or the HTC 10 for the most part and even manages to outperform them in a few areas: 5.5 inch 1080p 'Optic' Amoled Display ...

Moto Z and Moto Z Force- Its time for some MotoMods

At Lenovo Techworld Event in San Francisco, Motorola unveiled the all new Moto Z and Moto Z Force smartphones that aim to change the smartphone industry. With full metal chassis body and a thickness of around 5.2mm, these devices are the thinnest flagship in the market right now. Taking a cue from LG and Google, these smartphones feature a modular design which makes use of several accessories called MotoMods, that snap onto the handset using magnets and draw their power/data through a 6Gbps multi-pin connection. Motorola has announced that there will be three mods available at launch: a pico projector, a battery power pack and a jbl speaker. Moto likes to called this modular approach a "full blown gamechanger". One good thing about these mods is that, they can be easily snapped to the back of these smartphones without the need to restart them. The concept seems a little similar to a Lenovo smartphone launched in 2014, called Lenovo Vibe X2.  A thing to note ...

LeEco Le 1s Review - After a month's use

LeEco(or Letv as it was formally called) launched its first two smartphones in India in the beginning of February this year. Some people may look at it as just another Chinese company trying to make inroads in India but, to be frank LeEco is slightly different as it is one of the first or maybe only Chinese company to follow the concept of creating an ecosystem of products called-Le Ecosystem(hence, the name change). Now coming to the smartphone i.e the Le 1s,company seems to have created quite a good product to performance ratio with its Inr 10,999 price tag, here in India. So,let's find out if it is any good. Build & Design As far as build goes I can quite easily say that it's one of the first smartphones in India to sport a metallic unibody build at a budget price. Yes,now there are phones like the Huawei honor 5x and the Redmi Note 3 but this one seems to be the best as far as build goes. In design department,LeEco further stamps its authority with a symmetrically d...

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge-A good mix of old and new 'innovations' by Sammy

After a month full of leaks and rumours, the flagship twins from Samsung finally arrive.Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are not a huge improvement over their predecessors in terms of their design language.Samsung is taking the "why fix it if it ain't broke" approach as the design on the previous S series phones were pretty good.Other than that,Samsung has made a few incremental improvements in cameras and of course, the performance along with bringing back some of the popular features. So,what's new? Samsung has 'innovated' by going back in time and bringing back features like expandable storage along with IP68 dust and water resistance capability ala Samsung Galaxy S5.Bringing back the expandable storage options, might have brought smiles on the faces of the reviewers and fans alike who were quite disappointed by the lack of sd card support in their predecessors. The great thing is that Samsung has brought these utility features without compromising on th...

LG G5-A phone that's so different, yet so similar..

At MWC 2016,LG announced the launch of its flagship for this year-LG G5.This is a huge shift of strategy for LG,this time. The previous G series phones from LG were primarily built out of plastic, which was practical choice but which often made it look cheaper as compared to its peers from the Samsung and the Apple. The G5,however,is a radical change as it features a full metallic build, giving it a premium look, which the previous G phones were somewhat lacking. Not only the build,LG is made several interesting changes like the dual cameras at back(a 16+8 mp setup),which enables the G5 to capture a 135 degree wide view which is industry leading, ofcourse. The screen is a 5.2 inch quad hd ips panel with always on display, which lg claims to be more power efficient compared to the amoled panels. Slide out expansion Slot This is one the feature that LG was vouching for while introducing the phone.LG G5 is the first main stream flagship android phone to feature somewhat modular des...
